Book 4 and counting.“We want a pet snake, but our dad is terrified of snakes. He finally agreed. What could possibly go wrong?!”The Our House series is created to provide beginning readers with simple content and humor, so that it engages their desire to read the books, again and again. Our House stories are written using first-level sight words to make reading easy and build the young reader's confidence. Both the parent and child will enjoy the humor, and the child's reading ability will grow by reinforcing the sight words. Adults will enjoy the jokes as well - a welcome respite from so many dull kids' stories! Short and sweet for parents. Early reading doesn't have to be boring - it can be funny too! Each Our House book is based on a true story, depicting the chaos that reigns in a house with four young kids, a single dad, and way, way too many pets

Reading to learn, reading to practice reading...Children are stuck doing so much reading that's not about them.Don't get me wrong.I'm not blaming anyone, but I'm saying that as parents, you, well, we can be the heroes. We can swoop in and save the day at home. How?Allow your child to have free reading time.Let them spend that time reading for pleasure or to learn things that they want to find out more about. Not sure what they're interested in.Use a reading interest inventory if you need a guide or spend time observing your child and also talk to them about what they feel about books or what they enjoy reading.Once you have an idea of what your child enjoys reading, help them get access to those books and spend time reading with them.Remember, together, we can inspire a new generation of readers, especially boys.

I'll add three more misconceptions about being a reader (for children):1. To be a reader, you do not have to be able to read yourself. Babies who are read to from very young pick up the habit early.2. To be a reader (as a grown child), you do not have to read only books without pictures.3. To be a reader, you do not have to recall every single detail in the books you have read.Reading is inclusive, there is room for everyone.

The best reading advice I could ever give to any parent is to pick books based on your child's interests. Why would you put yourself or your child through the stress of doing it any other way?If they're not interested in the books, reading becomes a chore, they gripe and complain, you get mad and force them or you say forget it, period.Just don't do it!Even if they have to read specific books for a class or homework, mix those reading times up with times where they can read just for fun or pleasure to make it more bearable. The number one complaint I hear from children who don't want to read is that they don't get to read books on things they enjoy or care about.Be the hero!Give your child a chance to read books they'll enjoy so that they feel inspired to read more and to love books.Remember, together, we can inspire a new generation of readers, especially boys.

Summer reading is essential for children. Here are some tips for making summer reading with your child a breeze.Finger stretching is a fun, engaging way for young readers to break words down into sounds and then blend them together. To stretch a word across your fingers:Make a fist while saying the word.Put up a finger while saying each sound in the word. Then make a fist again and say the word one more time.

When it came to writing Tiny Humans, Big Emotions it was really important to us that it was packed with practical, real-life strategies. Not, hey, do you have a spare 20 mins? (Because what parent or teacher does?)Not a one size fits all approach. (Because what works with one kid won’t work with the other.)This book is jam-packed with ways to respond in the moment AND outside of the moment to build lifelong skills for self-awareness, regulation, empathy, social skills, intrinsic motivation, and emotion processing. My goal isn’t happy, calm kids all the time. My goal is to raise a generation of kids who know how to navigate the hard stuff. And if you didn’t grow up getting these tools yourself, we’ve got you. Our book dives into how you can build them, too. Snag it today atwww.seedandsew.org/book
