I am pretty close with my mom she is my best friend. But she has no tact and no filter. I usually brush it aside because I love her so much. This is my 4th baby and she’s never done this before mostly because in my past pregnancies I’m very small till the last 4 weeks. I’ve always had very small babies who had IUGR and SGA. This pregnancy I’m very healthy, the baby is super healthy and I’m showing much earlier. I’m 28 weeks now and not huge! So…? Every time I unzip my coat or where a baby bump shirt she laughs and points at it to all my family/friends. At my twins bday party my sister didn’t want to take any pics and my mom said”why, do you think you look fat sweetie?” Then saw me and my bump and said “look at (my name’s) huge tummy!” And began laughing. My sister and I were mortified.
I’m pretty secure in who I am as a person but because this is the most I’ve shown in a pregnancy before I’m a little more aware of it… I don’t want to talk to her today after what she did at a concert last night (laughing again). I just don’t know what to tell her either. This is a first for me since I’m very vocal about when ppl piss me off. Maybe I’m just overreacting though!

Wait I’m so confused why she is laughing? Because you have a baby bump?? I don’t understand why that’s funny, you should? I would definitely say something to her especially since you guys are close and I’m sure you would prefer to have your mama close to you during the remainder of your pregnancy than feel like you don’t want to talk to her! I’m so sorry though a baby bump is nothing to laugh at. And for the record your bump looks like a healthy perfect size where it proudly

@IJB54,
I have no idea why she’s laughing, it’s weird to me too. I think she thinks it’s cute but she said look at her huge tummy to try and make someone else feel better about their body image so it feels insulting I’m going to talk to her though. Thank you!!

That would totally hurt my feelings & I would talk to my mom about it. My brother likes to make weight jokes in general about whether someone is too large or small, and when he sees my bump (27w), I expect to hear him make a joke- like, whoa someone’s been eating for two or are you sure there aren’t twins in there. He is overall a great brother but thinks these types of comments are funny. I am planning to say simply that I don’t like jokes about my appearance during pregnancy or otherwise.

I’m super sensitive when it comes to the whole ‘looking big’ during pregnancy issue lol. I’ve always been pretty small, so I’m insecure the bigger I get. My mom does the whole ‘you look big’ thing and it irritates me. If she said anything positive it would be different, so I totally get where you’re coming from. Everyone else says ‘you look amazing’ and I think I just want that from my mom. I don’t even like eating in front of her anymore because of what she might be thinking. Ugh. Try not to let it bother you too much, but I completely understand.

@caligurl123,
I totally agree& I feel the same way! I know we look beautiful in a special way during pregnancy but I’ve always had body image issues so it’s just more of a trigger to me. I hope we can both address it and get some peace!

@ditsydaisyblue,
it wouldn’t be so annoying if she actually said something super positive, but she doesn’t lol.

Tell her she's hurting your feelings! I can't imagine being this tactless but I'd never intentionally hurt my daughter so I'm hoping your mom is just clueless that she's being rude.

@rfitzy,
I think she is pretty clueless but I gave her a bad look and just said what the heck kind of mom and that was the first time and she’s just kept doing it

@ditsydaisyblue,
I'd get more specific - "Mom, please stop making comments about the size of my belly. I feel self conscious and I don't want to hear those comments anymore. Baby is healthy and my dr is happy with his growth."

Girl!! You are not huge, you look healthy and you have a perfectly normal and cute bump. Your mom’s rude behavior is really uncalled for. Tell her if she keeps acting like a b**** then you will have to limit your time with her for your own well being. Even if you’re used to this behavior it’s obviously getting to you if you’re posting and wanting opinions. I’m sorry.

Some people are just clueless. They don’t know until they are told. That doesn’t excuse it at all but I definitely think you should say something. If you’re best friends I’m sure she doesn’t want to be hurting you and might just not understand for some reason how her words are affecting you. Just have a chat with her!

Honestly just laugh at her stomach then just say oh you’ve done it so much lately I thought it was something we were trying out! If that doesn’t get her to stop pick something else to laugh at next lol. I get mean if I have to, my dad felt like asking me how much weight I’ve gained so far (during my first pregnancy) and I asked him why he thought that was a normal question and if he would like to discuss his weight. He didn’t ask again after that lol
