DEER CREEK ANTLERS

OVERALL RECORD: 22-14

DISTRICT RECORD: 10-4

POWER 25 WINS: 6

PLAYERS TO WATCH

WILLIAM BRADY HAMILTON, RHP/INF, 2023, WICHITA STATE COMMIT

LUKE SCHIMMELS, RHP, INF, 2023, CISCO JC COMMIT

ASHTON HARTWIG, OF/LHP, 2024

TAYLOR TOMLIN, OF, 2023, HOUSTON COMMIT

BRITTAIN BREWER, INF, 2023

LOGAN HEDRICK, OF/RHP, 2024

KAMDEN PHILLIPS, LHP, 2023, BUTLER CC COMMIT

KELLEN FRIZZELL, INF, 2024

Coach Baza and the Antlers have had one of the more perplexing seasons from where we thought they would be in 6A and how the 2023 campaign unfolded. They have had to deal with a plethora of injuries throughout the year and have thrust guys into roles that they might not have been ready for at the time but should continue to propel them forward in the coming years. Even with all the struggles, the Antlers still found a way to put together an impressive district resume and earn the opportunity to host for the 4th consecutive year. With Deer Creek’s talent they still need to be considered a true title defender as long as their impact arms can work deep into games. They have the proven arms to get it done in the postseason but the bullpen and overall pitching depth has shown itself at times throughout the year so getting quality starts will be crucial. Offensively they have a number of guys that can beat you with strong athletic players at the top of the order in Tomlin and Hartwig, followed by some boppers in the middle like Schimmels and Hamilton that have proven themselves to leave the yard at a moment’s notice. With the talented roster and home field advantage, the Antlers will look to make another run deep into the postseason this month.

EDMOND SANTA FE WOLVES

OVERALL RECORD: 15-17

DISTRICT RECORD: 10-4

POWER 25 WINS: 2

PLAYERS TO WATCH

CARSON BRUMBAUGH, SS/RHP, 2025

DEVIN MITCHELL, OF/1B, 2023, TARLETON STATE COMMIT

JACKSON MACWILLIAMS, UTL/LHP, 2023, BARTON CC COMMIT

SAVION SIMS, OF/RHP, 2026

JOSEPH HEARD, UTL, 2023

VAUGHAN MCINTYRE, C, 2025

2023 has been a bit of a mixed bag for first year head coach Romus Cezar and the Wolves, finishing the regular season below .500 but having an impressive 10-4 record in district play. After losing the state championship game in 2022, the Wolves had some big holes to fill especially on the mound and in the lineup but still returned a strong core of experienced guys that helped them get to that point last year. Brumbaugh is one of the better talents across the state regardless of class thanks to his strong defensive abilities at short and his improved offensive game. Devin Mitchell has a strong combination of speed and power and has transitioned nicely into the center field role where his sneaky athleticism shows. Jackson MacWilliams pitched in the state championship game a year ago and provided the Wolves with much needed experience on the mound heading into the postseason. For the Wolves to try and make another deep run this spring, they will need these experienced impact players to make their mark in every game and don’t be shocked if they play above their current overall record.

PUTNAM CITY PIRATES

OVERALL RECORD: 10-15

DISTRICT RECORD: 5-9

POWER 25 WINS: 0

PLAYERS TO WATCH

JUAN ROJAS, MIF/RHP, 2023

GAVIN LANG, INF, 2026

CONNOR FAST, MIF, 2025

Coach Gatz and the Pirates were able to get to that double digit win total in 2023 playing largely a 6A schedule. Of their 25 games this spring, all but 4 came against 6A foes making them battle tested headed into regional play. Although the results have been tough against the top half of their district, they were able to rack up 5 wins thanks to taking care of business against the teams below them in the standings as well as picking off a talented Deer Creek team 3-2 early on in the year. The Pirates play a lot of underclassmen and will look to build off their experience gained throughout the season to help propel the program forward in the coming years.

LAWTON WOLVERINES

OVERALL RECORD: 6-28

DISTRICT RECORD: 2-12

POWER 25 WINS: 0

PLAYERS TO WATCH

ZANE NELSON, OF, 2023

NATHAN HAWZIPTA, C/MIF, 2025

IVAN THOMASIAN, C, 2025

It’s been a bit of a struggle for the Wolverines and coach Alan Prater in 2023 struggling to a 6-28 record. Their biggest issues have come on the pitching side where they have given up double digit runs in more games than not. There is some room for optimism heading into the future with multiple underclassmen getting experience at the varsity level that they will use to help propel the program forward in the coming years.
